Moonshot Concert is a feature documentary film about the experience of dying in America. The film follows social media medical influencer J Mack Slaughter, MD as he works to produce an end of life celebration with a Moonshot Concert... a dream concert for the family and friends of terminally ill patient.

Through the process, social media medical influencers Tiffany Moon, MD, Bayo Curry-Winchell, MD,Sanjay Juneja, MD and hospice professional Ryan Shaw examine the personal and cultural impacts of dying in America.

Moonshot Concert examines how we die in America, how we treat the aging and how we can die differently.

Dr. J Mack Slaughter is an emergency physician and social media influencer with more than 1,000,000 followers online and 300,000,000 views. His passion for music began at age three, performing on stage with his older sisters in their family band He has toured the country in a boy band, starred in a television sitcom, and appear in the 20th Century Fox feature film, Fat Albert. Desiring a more stable, but fulfilling long term profession, he decided to become a doctor. After his mother was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. J Mack and his sisters brought their instruments to her chemotherapy infusion room filling the experience for her and other cancer patients with music, happiness, and love. This powerful experience led to the creation of his nonprofit, Music Meets Medicine, which has now raised of more than half a million dollars for music therapy, jam rooms at children’s hospitals, and instrument donation to patients.

Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell serves as the Medical Director of Urgent Care Clinics at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV, and is the visionary founder of Beyond Clinical Walls, a dynamic social media and podcast platform dedicated to sharing accurate and credible health information through entertaining, and educational short-form content. Her mission as a social media influencer is to provide accessible health information to diverse audiences to increase health literacy and raise awareness for inequalities in health care. Dr. Bayo also serves as an assistant medical examiner at Washoe County Child Protective Services. She co-chairs the Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging Committee for the Nevada State Medical Association. Dr. Bayo has received numerous prestigious awards including, Becker's Hospital Review highlighted Dr. Bayo as one of the 75 Black healthcare leaders to watch. After 30 years as a registered nurse and after his mother died while receiving hospice care, Ryan Shaw, RN began his career as a hospice nurse. In his 16 years in hospice Ryan has served as an RN case manager, clinical liaison, director of clinical liaison operations, regional director of clinical operation, and chief compliance officer. For 12 years, Ryan was Board Certified as a Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN®) and during this time he was selected to be a member of the Exam Development Committee and became the committee chair. He has taught as guest lecturer on Hospice/Palliative Care for Texas Woman’s University; CME guest lecturer on “Ethics of End-of-Life Care” for interns/residents in the Department of Graduate Medical Education at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas; and guestlecturer of Hospice/Palliate Care for Versant ICU RN Internship Program at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Ryan also was chosen to be an Advisory Board member to develop Palliative Care Standards for the Accreditation Commission for Health Care.

About the Filmmaker

Donald Griswold is a documentary filmmaker, an author and a storyteller. Donald’s feature documentary film, ABUNDANTwill be released in 2025 after a Hollywood World Premiere event in March 2025. The signature of Donald‘s work is an examination of sensitive and difficult subject matters common to the human experience. LIke ABUNDANT and his 2017 novel Dying Light, Moonshot Concert finds accessible personal stories inside circumstances that are familiar to all of us. And through those stories, Donald creates shared experiences gently with his audience to illuminate, inspire and touch lives.
